The TRIO Programs were originally established by the federal government in 1965 to ensure equal educational opportunity for all Americans, regardless of race, ethnic background, or economic circumstance. In many communities, the TRIO Programs are some of the only programs available that help students to overcome the class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education. Our nation has asserted a commitment to providing educational opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance. Congress continues to support TRIO Programs as they help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life. TRIO Programs (initially there were three programs) are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. While student financial aid programs help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, TRIO programs help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. Continuing in the deep tradition of success, Federal TRIO Programs (Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math Science, Veteran's Upward Bound, Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program) help students to enter into and successfully continue the educational pipeline. TRIO services include: assistance in choosing a college; tutoring; personal and financial counseling; career counseling; assistance in applying to college; workplace and college visits; special instruction in reading, writing, study skills and mathematics; assistance in applying for financial aid; and academic assistance in high school or assistance to reenter high school or college.

Upward Bound Summer trip to the State Capital

"Picture was taken on a summer Upward    Bound trip this past year. The Upward Bound    students took a tour and learned all about the    business that goes on daily at the Wisconsin    State Capitol in Madison Wisconsin. The    Wisconsin State Capitol, houses both    chambers of the Wisconsin legislature                along with the Wisconsin Supreme Court and    the Office of the Governor. One fact the               students learned about the State Capitol is that    it has: 705 rooms, 714 exterior windows, 1608    doors, and 2782 steps"
